Three Things To Do In the Tri-County This Weekend! 07-29-17

Friday July 28th – The Gazms Q&A @ Laser Wolf (Broward)

I’ll be hosting a Q&A/live in-studio performance with Miami punks The Gazms at Ft. Lauderdale’s favorite drinking hole – Laser Wolf. Shameless self-promotion you say? Maybe. But go find a better event this Friday! I double dare ya’!

Saturday July 29th – Cavity A.D. @ Respectable’s (Palm Beach)

Fresh off a recent rare live performance in Miami, reunited sludge band Cavity, now Cavity A.D., will perform at Respectable Street on July 29, marking the first West Palm Beach appearance by the influential Miami-based sludge outfit in almost two decades. Cavity A.D. is currently supporting their first album album in 16 years, After Death, released on Valley King Records on January 2, 2017. Cavity A.D. is joined by German noise rockers Ten Volt Shock, Swiss punk outfit Yc-Cy, and Kill Your. Doors open at 8 p.m. Cover is $10 and fans ages 18 and over are welcome.

Renowned for its pioneering take on Black Sabbath-inspired, down-tuned metal sludge, Cavity was formed in Miami, FL in 1992 by bass player Daniel Gorostiaga and vocalist Rene Barge. Throughout the band’s history, Cavity has hosted a rotating lineup of noteworthy Miami musicians, including Raf Luna (The Crumbs), Jason Landrian (Black Cobra), Anthony Vialon (Floor, Load), Juan Montoya (Torche, MonstrO), Betty Monteavaro (Holly Hunt), and Steve Brooks (Floor, Torche). After ten years of critically acclaimed singles and albums on Hydra Head Records, artist Frank Kozik’s Man’s Ruin, and Bacteria Sour Records, among others, and extensive touring, Cavity broke up in 2002. The band recently reunited for a limited series of one-off performances, beginning in 2015. The current lineup includes Gorostiaga, Barge, guitarists Ed Matus and Andrew McLees, and drummer Rick Smith.

Ten Volt Shock is a fiercely independent noise rock outfit from Freiburg, Germany. The band consists of lead singer and guitarist Frank Otto, Mario Störkle on bass, and Markus Brengartner on drums. For more than 14 years, Ten Volt Shock has collaborated with more than a dozen Independent record labels in Germany, France and the United States, performed countless shows in Europe with bands like Chinese Stars, Vaz, A-Frames, Intelligence, Melt Banana, and Obits, and recently toured Australia. Their taught, frenetic live shows have garnered critical praise and comparisons to bands like Shellac, Jesus Lizard and Hot Snakes.

Also on the bill are Swiss punk barnburners Yc-Cy and West Palm Beach abrasive psych, noise punkers Kill Your. Both bands present a blazing fast, caustic, powerful take on punk.

Cavity (Miami), Ten Volt Shock (Germany), YC-CY (Switzerland), Kill Your. Presented by PureHoney Magazine and Quiet Mind Recordings. 8 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at Respectable Street, 518 Clematis St, West Palm Beach; (561) 832-9999; Admission is $10. Ages 18 and over.
